FEAST OF WEEKS
I. Where does it say in the Book of YaHVaH that the Feast of Weeks is to be celebrated in the Third (3rd) month of the Scriptural year?
A. Tradition has it that in the Third (3rd) month is the Feast of Weeks, but after you look at Scripture you will find that it is not true. This is not the time of year you are suppose to have this Feast Day.
II. The Counting
The Scripture that we will start out with will be Lev 23:16 “Until the day after the seventh Sabbath; you are to count fifty days; and then you are to present a new grain offering to YaHVaH.”
A.Here the Scripture tells us plainly that after seven (7) weeks, then we count 50 days, then have your grain offering. So this means that there will be 99 to 100 days from the time you start the count to the Feast of Weeks, and then it is the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost.
The Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost will always be on the second day of the Week (Monday), not the first day (Sun-day) as is commonly taught.
B. Now to understand what is correct, about nature and other Scripture, to do with the Feast of Weeks i.e. Pentecost, we will first have to understand that the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost has to do with a WHEAT HARVEST.
C. Now, we do know that there is NO Winter Wheat Harvest mentioned in Scripture. IF you can find any Scripture that has to do with Winter Wheat Harvest, please show me. It does talk about SUMMER Wheat.
D. Try as you might, you are not going to find any Scripture(s) that tells you about a Winter Wheat Harvest in the Book of YaHVaH. It just is not there, but SUMMER Wheat is.
E. But since ALL Scripture that deals with the Summer Wheat Harvest points to a different time of the year for the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost, shouldn’t we keep it when we are suppose to instead of tradition?
F. Since we have found out in Lev 23:16 and it told us that AFTER seven (7) weeks to count fifty (50) days to come to the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost.
1.Now, when we do the counting, and the figuring, we see that will take us into the SUMMERTIME, not Springtime, as we have been lead to believe.
2. If, and I say IF, we found no evidence of a Summer Wheat, but a Winter Wheat Harvest, then we could say yes to the keeping of the Springtime Feast of Weeks.
3. When you start looking at Scripture and see for yourself that there is no mention of a Winter Wheat Harvest, then according to Lev 23:16, the only way to understand the count would be to count seven (7) weeks and then count 50 days after that to get the true Feast of Weeks i.e. Pentecost.
We will look at lots of Scripture that will show the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost to be in the SUMMER, not in the Spring as tradition teaches us, and most people keep.
III. Pilgrim Feast/CHAG
A. Aharon made a proclamation of a Pilgrim Feast/CHAG which was fifty (50) days after the seventh (7th) Sabbath complete.
B. The only Pilgrim Feast this could have been was the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost, and it is the fourth month when Aharon proclaimed this.
C. NOTE: There is no CHAG found at ALL in the third (3rd) for the “so-called” Feast of Weeks i.e. Pentecost that is kept in that month.
D. Summer Wheat Harvest is not harvested in the Springtime after the Spring Barley Wheat Harvest. BUT was that the case in Scriptural times? Did the Priest plant a Winter Wheat Harvest or did they plant a SUMMER WHEAT HARVEST? All the Scriptures that point to the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost, shows when we examine the Scriptures to be a SUMMER WHEAT HARVEST, NOT the traditional Spring Wheat Harvest, that most keep.
E. We can prove by Scripture that is a Wheat Harvest in the SUMMER, BUT, is there ANY Scripture that can tell us we have a Spring Harvest of Wheat?
IV. Book of Josephus
A..In the book of Josephus it plainly tells how that it was SUMMERTIME when the fruit of the land was almost ripe enough for reaping that Samson did set fire to the fruit of the land, wheat and grapes etc. Also the Book of Judges will plainly tell us it was the time of the Summer Harvest when Samson set fire to the fruit of the land,
B. Chapter 8 Book of Josephus, Concerning the fortitude of Samson, And What Mischief’s Brought Upon the Philistines. 7. At this injurious treatment of Samson was so provoked that he resolved to punish all the Philistines, as well as her, so it being then SUMMERTIME, and the fruit of the land being almost ripe enough for reaping, he caught three (3) hundred foxes, and joined lighted torches to their tails, he sent them into the fields of the Philistines.
C. Let us look at Judges 15:1-5 “But after a while during the Wheat Harvest season, Samson went to see his wife. He brought a young goat for her and said to her father, “I want to go to my wife in her room,” But he wouldn’t let him. Her Father said, “I really thought you hated her altogether, so I gave her to your best man. But yonder sister isn’t she prettier? Why not take her instead? Samson said to them! “This time I’m through with the Philistines! I’m going to do something terrible to them!” So Samson went and caught three (3) hundred foxes. Then he took torches, tied pairs of foxes to each pair of tails, then he set the torches bonfire and let the foxes loose in the wheat fields of the Philistines. In this way he burned up the harvest of wheat along with the grain waiting to be harvested, and the olive orchards as well,”
1. This is telling us in plain English that the time of Wheat Harvest is SUMMER NOT SPRING. Proving that the Wheat Harvest this is speaking about is the SUMMER WHEAT HARVEST, not at Spring Harvest of the Winter Wheat.
D. Josephus was well aware about how many foxes, etc., because he was very much in the know about the Scriptures.
1. So the question is this. Since Josephus knew the Scriptures, how come he did not know about the Wheat Harvest being in the Spring instead of the Summer? Or could it be possibly that in the time of Josephus it really was SUMMER in the first place and not Spring like so many of the good Brethren think?
E. Now here is what Josephus had to say:
1. “ In the meantime Herod’s affairs in Judea were in and ill state. He left his brother Joseph with full power, but had charged him to make no attempts against Antigonus, till his return; for that Macher as would not be such an assistant as He could depend on, as it appeared by what he had done already, but as soon as Joseph heard that his brother was a very great distance, he neglected the charge he had received, and marched toward Jericho with five cohorts, which Macher sent him. This movement was intended for seizing on the corn, as it was now in the MIDST OF SUMMER.”
F. Now, please notice this very last verse of the quote. And this is found in Josephus under the title: The Death of Joseph (Herod’s Brother), which had been signed to Herod in dreams. Now Herod was preserved twice after a wonderful manner. He cuts off the head of Pappus who was the murder of his brother, and sends that head to (his other brother) Pheroas, and in no long time he besieges Jerusalem and married Mariamine.
G. Let us look closely at the next quote from the Book of Josephus, and you will see that it was known back then, that there were four (4) seasons to the year. And we quote “And in addition to the four elements the seasons of the year are also four, which are the “cause” of the “generation” of animals and “plants,” the year being divided into quadruple division of WINTER, and SPRING, and SUMMER, and AUTUMN. XVII. The above number therefore being accounted worthy.
1. Please pay attention to what was said of the quote from Josephus. He told us there were four (4) SEASONS, WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER, and AUTUMN, are the cause of the generation of animals and plants. This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that you have three(3) harvest feast each and every year.
a. 1. Barley harvest in SPRING.
b. 2. Wheat in SUMMER
c. 3. Annual fruits of the trees, in the AUTUMN
2. People have even said, well, all the harvest were SUMMERTIME. But we can NOT accept that because of what Josephus said: “AND IN THE ADDITION TO THE FOUR (4) ELEMENTS THE SEASONS OF THE YEAR ARE FOUR (4), WHICH ARE THE CAUSE OF THE GENERATION OF THE ANIMALS AND PLANTS, THE YEAR BEING DIVIDED INTO THE QUADRUPLE OF DIVISION OF WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER AND AUTUMN.”
H. Now, I ask you, where is the Scripture that says there is a Spring Harvest for Wheat? Can someone please find me a Scripture that says Spring Wheat Harvest?
There should be some Scripture somewhere that will support the fifty (50) day count after the wave sheaf, instead of fifty (50) days after the seventh Sabbath COMPLETE for Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost.
Now, when in the fifty (50) day COMPLETE? At twilight is the 50 days COMPLETE. Then this is when the Feast of Weeks i.e. Pentecost, starts and not before it is COMPLETE.
V. How Do We Know That The Feast of Weeks Is A SUMMER FEAST?
Now we will turn our attention to Neh 13:15 “During this time I saw in Y’hudah some people who were treading winepresses on Shabbat, also bringing in heaps of grain and loading donkeys with it, likewise wine, grapes, figs and all kinds of loads; and they were bringing them into Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) on the day of Shabbat. In the day when they were planning to sell the food, I warned them not to.”
A.Nehemyah said, he saw the men treading grapes in the wine presses.
1.When are grapes ripe? (Summertime)
2.When are figs ripe? (Summertime)
3.What sheaves were these they had?
4.What time of the year would this have to be? SUMMER!
B.What did the Saviour YAHVAHOSHA tell us in John 4:35?
1..Jn 4:35 “SAY YE NOT…THERE ARE YET FOUR (4) MONTHS THEN COMETH THE HARVEST.”
Did you get that? He said:
a.”There are yet four months then cometh the harvest.”
C.This we do know for a fact, SUMMER WHEAT MATURES IN FOUR (4) MONTHS. We know that it is sown in Abib/Spring and is reaped in the FOURTH MONTH/SUMMER, which is seven Sabbath’s and 50 days, then you bring in the First Fruits from it/SUMMER. That is why we know that the Wheat was not destroyed by the hail in Egypt, because it had not yet come up.
D.Now, the word CHAG, means this according to Strong’s Heb #2282 Chag. “mas., now comes from Heb #2287. It means festival or feast. The main idea was the celebration of a Holiday, this noun occurs sixty-one (61) times and usually refers to the three main festivals of the Hebrews which requires a pilgrimage, the Passover, with the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles.
So we know when Aharon used the word CHAG, which is ONLY used for required Feast, it was SUMMER, NOT SPRINGTIME, AND THIS WAS FIFTY (50) DAYS AFTER THE SEVENTH SABBATH.
1.This is also the same time that the Law was given to the Hebrews on Mount Sinai.
E. Ex 31:18 When He had finished speaking Moshe on Mount Sinai, YaHVaH gave Him (Moshe) the two tablets of the testimony tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of YaHVaH.”
F.Here is what Philo tells us about the harvest time for the Feast of Weeks, and he tells us that it comes:
A.AFTER the grapes are ripe, not before.
1.When are grapes ripe?
a.In the SUMMER.
2.He tells of the men that were keeping a prelude, for the great Feast.
4.Feast of Weeks (Pentecost)
5.50 days after the Weave Sheaf.
B. THIS MEANS WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT THE MORNING AFTER THE 7TH SABBATH IS NOT AND I REPEAT NOT THE FEAST OF WEEKS. IT IS THE VERY START OF THE 50 DAYS COUNT TO
THE FIFTY (50) DAY COUNT TO THE FEAST OF WEEKS.
C. Philo says, that the wheat was the last of all grain that are sowed into the fields and so it is the last to ripen. And NOT BEFORE the Feast of Weeks.
D.Meaning this Wheat was harvested during the time of the TRUE Feast of Weeks.
E.This Wheat, was NOT Spring Wheat, but SUMMER WHEAT that Philo was referring to. And it ripens last, after the Winter Wheat.
1. We find this in Philo Special Law 11.
F.The reason so many brethren get mixed up as when to celebrate the Feast of Weeks, is because they do not understand basic Scripture.
G.One Scripture that causes lots of problems is Ex 34:22.
1. Ex 34:22 “OBSERVE THE FESTIVAL OF SHAVU’OT (WEEKS) WITH THE FIRST GATHERED PRODUCE OF THE WHEAT HARVEST, AND THE FESTIVAL OF INGATHERING AT THE TURN OF THE YEAR.”
H.Most Brethren some how think that Scripture means two Feast, because of the word “ingathering at the turn of the year.”
1.Now when is the turn of the year?
a.The turn of the year is June 21st or 22nd, which is the Summer Solstice.
b.After this date the dates start to get shorter.
c.From June 21st-22nd to Dec 25th the days get shorter.
d.Dec 25th is the shortest day of the year.
e.As we have learned already that the Wheat Harvest is in the SUMMER and would have to be after 21st-22nd of June, Summer Solstice.
f.If you keep the Feast of Weeks, at the Traditional time somewhere near the end of May or the first week of June, or before the Wheat Harvest of Summer, you are not keeping the Feast of Weeks of the Scripture, and that is not in harmony with the Torah.
g.If they sowed the Summer Wheat in Abib/Nisan, the first month, when they came into the land, and only then could they reap a harvest for the first fruits fifty (50) days later after the seventh (7) Sabbaths. It could not come to mature 50 days later after it was planted.
1.Not possible, as much as the Brethren would like it to be possible, it can’t be.
G.Ex 23:16 “Next the Festival of Harvest, the first fruits of your efforts sowing in the fields; and last, the Festival of Ingathering, at the end of the year, when you gather from the fields the results of your efforts.”
There is so much proof that will support that the count should begin 50 DAYS AFTER THE SEVENTH SABBATH, INSTEAD OF THE TRADITIONAL WAY THAT WAYS FIFTY (50) DAYS AFTER THE FIRST SABBATH. BE HONEST, CAN YOU FIND AND LOCATE BY BOOK, CHAPTER, AND VERSE, WHERE IT IS A SPRING WHEAT HARVEST FOR THE 3RD MONTH FOR THE FEAST OF WEEKS?
IF, it can’t be found, then I would have to say it is TRADITION of men that has people keeping the Feast of Weeks at the wrong time of year.
H.Now, we will look at some other Scriptures that support the Summer Fruit, Summer Wheat Harvest.
1.Prov. 26:1 “Like snow in the summer or rain at harvest, so honour for fool is out of place.”
a.Does this tell us that harvest is in the Spring?
b.This says the harvest is like snow, and that would be the Wheat tops.
c.Where is the Spring Harvest here? Not here is it?
2.Isa 16:9 “Therefore I will weep for Simah’s vine as I weep for Ya’zer; I will water you with my tears, Heshbon and El’aleh; because the shouts of battle are fallen on your Summer Fruit and Harvest.”
a.It says: FALLING ON YOUR SUMMER FRUIT AND HARVEST.
3.YAHVAH has said this to me: “I will look for my place and do nothing, like heat shimmer in the sun, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest? For before the harvest, when the flowering is over, and the bud becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the twigs and take them away. They will all be left to the vultures in the mountains and to the wild animals in the fields; winter.”
a.This is showing us here, that as the grapes are about to be ripe, so is the harvest, i.e. wheat was also ready to be harvest. When? In the SUMMER, not Spring or any other time of the year.
4.Jer 8:20 “The harvest is passed, the summer is over, and still we are not saved?”
a.What has happened here? What has passed away?
b.It tells us plainly, HARVEST IS PASSED, SUMMER IS OVER.
c.So how could this mean that we have the Feast of Weeks in the Spring, unless Summer in Scriptural days came before Spring.
5.Jer 40:10-12 “As for me, I will live in Mitzaph and be responsible to Kasdim who came to us. But you—harvest wine, Summer fruits and olive oil; put them in your containers; and live in your cities that you have taken over. Likewise, when the Judeans who were in Mo’av in Edom, among the people of Amon, and all the other countries heard that the King of Babel had let a remnant in Y’hudah and had appointed G’dalyahu in Mitzpah, and harvest wine and summer fruit in great abundance.”
a.This set of Scripture is just continuing what was said in Chapter. So we know it is a Summer Feast, not Spring.
6.Da 2:35 “Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were broken into pieces which became like the chaff on a threshing floor in summer; the wind blew them all away without leaving a trace. But the stone which had struck the statue grew into a high mountain that filled the whole earth.”
a.What was going on in Summer in this verse? The Wheat was being threshed? When? In SUMMER.
b.How much plainer do you want it?
c.Summer, surely does not mean Spring. And Summer does not come in the third month does it?
d.Then pray tell how is the Feast of Weeks in the Spring?
e. It is put there BY MAN!
7.Amos 8:1-5 “Here is what YAHVAH the Eternal showed me: there in front of me was a basket of Summer fruit. He said, “Amos, what do you see?” I answered “A basket of Summer (Hebrew: Kayitz) fruit.” “Then YaHVaH said to me: The end (Hebrew: Ketz) has come for my people, I will never again overlook their offenses. When that time comes, the song of the Temple will be wailing’s saith YaHVaH the Eternal. There will be many dead bodies everywhere silence will reign. Listen you who swallow the needy and destroy the poor of the land! You will say when will Rosh-Hosh (New Moon) be over, so we can market our grain?
And Shabbat, so we can sell wheat? You measure the grain in a small eifah, but the silver in heavy shekels, fixing the scales, so that you can cheat,”
a.Notice, the Summer fruit is also referring to the Wheat. He is going to return and Halleluyah, going to gather the Wheat into the barn on the Feast of Weeks.
8.Mic 7:1 “Woe to me! For I have become like the leaving of Summer fruit, like the gleaning when the vintage is finishing—there isn’t a cluster worth eating, no early ripen figs that appeals to me.”
a.Here it is referring to the first fruit or Summer first fruit.
b.It is proven by Nature that the Feast of Weeks comes in the Fourth (4th) Month of the Scriptural year, not the third (3rd) month of the year.
c.The reason that most people do not understand that the Feast of Weeks is kept in the Fourth (4th) Scriptural month is because they are blinded to this fact and still steeped in their traditions of man.
d.But, you will say to me, “All you have shown so far, comes from the Hebrew Scriptures, to explain the Feast of Weeks. Show us from the Restored Covenant.
e.First of all, what did happen on the day of Pentecost, i.e. Feast of Weeks?
f.What did happen on the day of Pentecost and what were the Apostles accused of being?
g.They were accused of being drunk with NEW wine. NOT grape juice, but wine that will make you drunk.
h.But, first of all before we look at the Restored Covenant Scriptures, let us look at the Hebrew Scriptures and see where this was told it was going to happen.
9.Joel 2:24-28 “Then the floor will be full of grain and the vats overflowing with wine and oil, I will restore to you the ears that the locusts ate, the grasshoppers, shearer worm and the cutter worms, my great army that I sent against you. You will eat until you are satisfied and will praise the name of YaHVaH your Eternal, who has done with you such wonders, then my people will never again be ashamed, You will know that I am with the Hebrew’s and that I am
YaHVaH your Eternal and that there is no other. Then My people will never again be shamed. After this, I will pour out my spirit on all humanity. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions; and also on male and female slaves in those days I will pour out my spirit.”
I.HELLO? Anybody reading what was said here? The floor will be full of what?
1.The floor is full of grain.
2.The vat is full of wine and oil.
a.Does this sound like this happened in the Third (3rd) Scriptural month?
b.Does this sound like this is when Pentecost. i.e. Feast of Weeks happened?
A. Because now we will look at Scripture in the Book of Acts that proves that the Joel Scripture is talking about this.
J. Ac 2:1, 13-18 “THE FESTIVAL OF SHAVU’OT (PENTECOST) ARRIVED, AND THE BELIEVERS ALL GATHERED TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE. BUT OTHERS MADE FUN OF THEM AND SAID, THEY’VE JUST HAD TOO MUCH WINE, THEN KEPHA (PETER) STOOD UP WITH THE ELEVEN AND RAISED HIS VOICE TO ADDRESS THEM: “YOU JUDEANS, AND ALL OF YOU STANDING HERE IN YERUSAHALYIM (JERUSALEM)! LET ME TELL YOU WHAT HIS MEAN! LISTEN CAREFULLY TO ME! THESE PEOPLE AREN’T DRUNK AS YOU SUPPOSE—IT IS ONLY NINE IN THE MORNING, NO, THIS IS WHAT WAS SPOKEN ABOUT THROUGH THE PROPHET YO’YL (JOEL): YAHVAH SAID: IN THE LAST DAYS, I WILL POUR OUT FROM MY SPIRIT UPON EVERYONE. YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS WILL PROPHESY, YOUR YOUNG MEN WILL SEE VISIONS, YOUR OLD MEN WILL DREAM DREAMS. EVEN MY SLAVES BOTH MEN ANDF WOMEN, I WILL POUR OUT FROM MY SPIRIT IN THOSE DAYS AND THEY WILL PROPHECY.
A.How can you be full of “new wine” in the 3rd Secular month of the calendar, when there is no new wine at all? There might be Old wine, but something that has just been made in the 3rd Secular month of the Calendar, IF this is the 3rd month here.
B.In Strong’s Greek #1098 which is gleukos (glyoo-kos) #1099, sweet wine, that is properly must (fresh juice), but used of the more saccharine (and therefore highly inebriating), fermented wine—New wine.
C. This to me Brethren is very plain that the NEW WINE would not even be in the 3rd Secular Calendar month or the 3rd Scriptural Calendar month at all.
D. So, then, why FOOL yourselves with a third (3rd) Scriptural month Feast of Week, when there is NO such a thing at all.
Satan had done a good job of fooling the people into believing a damnable lie to believing that it is the third (3rd) Scriptural month, and the mother of harlots, i.e. the Catholic Church has told all that this is the day for the season of the Feast of Weeks, and WE blindly follow the leader.
Now, we have shown the proof, with the Scriptures. Now it is your job as Brethren of YaHVaH what do you plan to do with the truth?
Do we just go along as we always have and keep the Feast of Weeks in the third (3rd) Scriptural Month or do we move it back to the month where it use to be, the fourth (4th) Scriptural month, or do we just leave it in the third (3rd) month.
I think the Jewish Priest and the Catholic Church are the ones that have us believing that the right time of the year to have the Feast of Weeks, i.e. Pentecost is in the third (3rd) Scriptural Month.
With all the Scripture that we have in this Study, it is proof that the Feast of Weeks, never came in the third (3rd) month, and by keeping it in that month, we are not keeping YaHVaH’s
True Feast of Weeks, but a day to ourselves.
Are we going to follow the traditions of the Jewish Priest, and the traditions of the Catholic Church and all the rest of the Denominations that follow tradition, or will be following thus what says YaHVaH Almighty.
The choice is yours, now what will you do with it?
